Since the start of Trump’s presidency, the “shadow of impeachment” has been a big talking point.
Trump is perhaps one of the most controversial presidents of the modern-day mostly due to the
various ethical issues that surround him. The article highlighted a few “impeachable offenses”
such as “the firing of the FBI director, James B. Comey, after trying to get him to drop an
investigation of a former aide to hush money paid to two women to keep them from talking publicly
about sexual encounters before the election”. This begs the question: do these offenses really call
for impeachment? According to a survey by the Washington Post and ABC, 49% of Americans
surveyed are in favor of impeaching Trump and 46% oppose it. Should the Democrats win control
of the House, the chance of Trump being impeached is still rather slim; however, the “pressure
from their liberal base” may lead to at least the opening of an impeachment inquiry. Whether or
not it actually ends up happening, the threat of impeachment will be looming over Trump’s shoulders.

“Impeachment, by its nature, represents the ultimate test of American democracy, a titanic clash between two branches of government”. Impeachment is an obvious example of the separation of powers and the various checks that each house has on each other. Impeachment of the President is found in Article II, Section 4.
- Should Trump be impeached?
- Why does representative Nancy Pelosi say that impeachment is “not someplace I think we should go”?
1) The question of should trump be impeached is a loaded one, and every answer is going to be biased. I think that so may people say that he should be impeached because they simply don't want him as president and would prefer someone else. Others think the offenses are impeachable, and other don't think he should be impeached at all. Personally I don't think so because it would cause such a national commotion, and even if he is strongly disliked by many it is not a reason to impeach him.
ReplyDelete2) I think Pelosi says that because a judge of character is not reason enough to impeach someone and it would cause even more tension to even bring it up so better to not put something in motion that can't be fully done.
1) While Trump has been highly unpopular among Democrats, he should not be impeached as we should be patient, a democracy is made so that as long as people are still content with the President we can tolerate it until the next election.
ReplyDelete2) Even the Minority leader thinks that impeachment is not reasonable, as Trump has not made a significant crime that has tarnished his image by the American public. If his purity was compared to an orange, he will still be fresh.
1. Whether Trump should be impeached is a highly political question right now. Personally I don't believe there is substantial evidence that fits the definition of impeachment. Even though many disagree with him, that is not grounds for impeachment.
ReplyDelete2. I think Pelosi makes this comment because she sees that it's reasonable not to impeach someone just on character, that isn't what the Constitution states.
Impeaching Trump would accomplish very little in the grand scope of things, and would cause chaos to erupt in the nation. Although he is controversial and many people dislike him there is no legitimate reason for him to be impeached. I think nacy pelosi says this because impeachment would result in total chaos for the country. There would be a loss of order if the president was impeached.
ReplyDelete1. Not yet. There isn’t enough proof of his wrongdoings, and although I am very confident that the Muller investigation will come up with damning evidence, it hasn’t revealed enough yet to impeach him.
ReplyDelete2. She also realizes that to impeach Trump would be conflating disagreeing with policy and personality and impeachable offenses.
